Expressions used in this tutorial for the words ‘hello’and ‘creative’

delay = .05;
myDelay = delay*textIndex;
t = (time – inPoint) – myDelay;
if (t >= 0){
freq =2;
amplitude = 100;
decay = 8.0;
s = amplitude*Math.cos(freq*t*2*Math.PI)/Math.exp(decay*t);
[s,s]
}else{
value
}

Used for the word ‘filmmakers’:

amp = .1;//?AI ?OI??A AIa?AIEA, UAI ?OI??A aI?IEUUaa1-1
freq = 2;//?AI ?OI??A AIa?AIEA, UAI ?OI??A ?aOUOUa1-2
decay = 8;//?AI ?OI??A AIa?AIEA, UAI IAI??A AaaA?EIa2-8

n = 0;
if (numKeys > 0){
n = nearestKey(time).index;
if (key(n).time > time){
n–;
}
}
if (n == 0){
t = 0;
}else{
t = time – key(n).time;
}

if (n > 0){
v = velocityAtTime(key(n).time – thisComp.frameDuration/10);
value + v*amp*Math.sin(freq*t*2*Math.PI)/Math.exp(decay*t);
}else{
value;
}

  1. Hi There,

    Thanks for this great video. I’m trying to get more comfortable with JS Expressions, and tried out the expression you used for the “Hello” text .

    I followed your steps precisely, but return syntax errors after pasting in your script:

    delay = .05;
    myDelay = delay*textIndex;
    t = (time – inPoint) – myDelay;
    if (t >= 0){
    freq =2;
    amplitude = 100;
    decay = 8.0;
    s = amplitude*Math.cos(freq*t*2*Math.PI)/Math.exp(decay*t);
    [s,s]
    }else{
    value
    }

    I’m not fluent enough to dubug the syntax. Can you verify that this is correct? or pass on any hints for troubleshooting this?

    Thanks!

  2. Perhaps you got an older version of AE?

    Also make sure to NOT copy any HTML or CSS from this page. Better first paste it into a notepad file and then copy it to AE.

    You can also try delay 1 instead of 0.5, perhaps it helps…

    delay = .1;
    myDelay = delay*textIndex;
    t = (time – inPoint) – myDelay;
    if (t>=0){
    freq =2;
    amplitude = 100;
    decay = 8.0;
    s = amplitude*Math.cos(freq*t*2*Math.PI)/Math.exp(decay*t);
    {s,s}
    }else{
    value
    }

    • Did you try this: Also make sure to NOT copy any HTML or CSS from this page. Better first paste it into a notepad file and then copy it to AE.
